Ezra Read Tolman

CLEARFIELD - The world has lost another member of "The Greatest Generation That Ever Lived." Ezra Read Tolman, 92, a truly great man, returned to our Heavenly Home on Thursday, July 18, 2013.

Ezra was born February 23, 1921, in Bountiful, UT, the son of Ora Eugene and Hazel Read Tolman. He was raised in Syracuse and educated in Davis County Schools. He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He married Marjorie Love in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on February 20, 1946. He devoted his life to her happiness. She passed away May 24, 2006, after 60 years of wonderful marriage. We are thrilled that their "Together Forever" continues.

He is a devoted member of the LDS church and has held many positions. He especially enjoyed serving with his wife in the Ogden LDS Temple.

He retired from the Auto Parts and Service business and later from Hill Air Force Base.

Ezra loved his family and enjoyed any time he could spend with them. His hobbies included yard work, leisure drives, the Utah Jazz and BYU football. He could repair anything and was often found in service to others. He loved the times he spent traveling with his wife and family.

His quiet, humble love and acceptance of everyone touched the lives of many. Though not very tall, we considered him our "Gentle Giant". We will miss his presence but never forget his influence.

Ezra is survived by his children: Janice and Rodney Hill, Kaysville; Gary and Marie Tolman, Roy. His grandchildren: Janalee and Henry Moeller, Jenifer and John Stoddart, Rustin Hill, Jake and Amy Tolman, Nate and Ana-Lisa Tolman, Jalyssa and Erik Christensen, Mischa and Scott Hansen and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, his daughter Linda, all of his brothers and sisters; Ruth, Ralph, Jaren, Read and Wanda.

A great reunion is surely taking place.

We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from many friends, associates and family members. Thank you to his caregivers who provided care and comfort during his declining months.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton. Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
