F. Marion Morrill

February 28, 1934 ~ July 24, 2015

Francis Marion Morrill, aka “Cot,” beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, July 24, 2015, at 81 years old, after a stroke the previous Monday morning.

Marion was born on February 28, 1934, in Tridell, Utah to parents Charles Ellis Morrill and Martha Lamoreaux. He grew up in Tridell with five siblings and graduated from Union High School.

Upon graduating from Union, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Beverly Walker, on February 18, 1953, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived in the Uintah Basin, Moses Lake, Washington; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Nibley, Utah; and for the past 41 years in Pleasant View, Utah. Marion and Joan raised five children. He worked in the U.S. Forest Service for 34 years, where he made many friends and memories and acquired many skills. In particular, he became an expert on blasting technology. He made major contributions to the U.S. Forest Service’s Guide for Using, Storing, and Transporting Explosives and Blasting Materials.

He greatly enjoyed woodworking and made countless items, such as furniture, toys, and clocks, that are still used and cherished by his family.

He served his whole life in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as a bishop for 10 years. He and his wife had been serving the past six years as service missionaries at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City.

Marion’s life has been one of endless kindness and service. Family and friends would continually turn to him for help and advice in all aspects of life. He would readily fix anything, from cars to furniture to chainsaws.

Marion is survived by his wife, Joan, and their children: Steven (Michaele), Phillip (Diane), Marilyn Clayton (Boyd), David, and Lorraine Hedges (Dawson). He is also survived by three of his brothers, Clint (Maxine), Harold (Ruth Ann), and Kenneth (Cheryl), and 26 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wesley, sister Marta Tullis, and daughter-in-law Jody Keenan Morrill.
