Farrell A. Dearden

SOUTH OGDEN – Farrell Amos Dearden, our sweet and gentle husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at home surrounded by his family.
Farrell was born February 27, 1920 in Henefer, Utah to George Amos and Annie Dawson Dearden. He was the eighth child, having four brothers, LaVern, Gleason, Thomas and Wayne, and sisters, Edna Carter and Rachel Hogge, all preceding him in death. He is survived by his sister, Lenna (Ray) Lockheart, San Diego, CA.
He attended school in Summit County graduating from North Summit High School in 1939. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-1945.
In 1948, he met and married the love of his life, Dorotha J. Hammer. They were married on October 1, 1948. Their vows were solemnized on March 2, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Farrell was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many callings in his ward and as an ordinance worker and sealer in the Ogden Temple. He and Dorotha served missions in Peoria, Illinois and the Manila Philippines Temple.
He worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1981.
Farrell’s interests included football, track and baseball in his younger years. He was known for hitting the longest homerun in the history of the Morgan County Fairgrounds. He enjoyed golf later in life. His family was the center of his life.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorotha, his children and their spouses, Catheryn (Melvin, deceased) Hackworth, Ogden; sons, Kent (Rhonda), Eden; Craig (Sheryl), North Ogden; Paul (Ranee), and Gaylen (DeeAnn), both of Roy; 21 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Hearts for Hospice, Elaine, Gina and staff for their wonderful care.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the South Ogden 5th Ward Chapel, 4380 Orchard Avenue.
Friends and family may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
