Farrell Eugene (Gene) Tew

SYRACUSE – Farrell Eugene (Gene) Tew, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away on July 17, 2016 at the age of 89.  Gene was born on October 16, 1926 in Malad, Idaho to Arthur and LaRue Tew.  He married Shirley Thomas on June 2, 1948 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  Following Shirley’s death, Gene married Shirley’s dear friend, Gayle Rose, on May 6, 2000 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple.

Gene was a proud patriot of the United States of America having served in both the US Navy and US Army.  Following 27 years of dedicated service, he retired from the military as a Chief Warrant Officer CW4 specializing in air defense.  He is one of the few who served in three wars having served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Gene was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He loved the outdoors, enjoyed gardening and restoring cars, and was known for being able to fix anything.  Nothing made him prouder than his family and he “adopted” Gayle’s family as his own.  He was truly selfless as he was known for inconspicuously serving others and being the first person to help.

Gene is survived by his wife, Gayle Tew; sons, Rick (Georgia) Tew and Steve (Sherma) Tew; sister, Marilyn (Roger) Christensen; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Tew; his son, Jim Tew; his brother, Wendell Tew; and his sister, Lorraine Walker.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Syracuse Center Ward LDS Chapel, 2228 S 1660 W, Syracuse, Utah.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
