Farris Crookston passed away peacefully from natural causes at her home in Layton, Utah on October 14, 2022. She was two weeks shy of her 95th birthday.
Farris was a very kind and loving person who always put the love of others before herself. In fact, her greatest joy was found in doing things for others. She was a very accomplished seamstress and even sewed fine women’s and men’s clothing professionally in her early years of marriage. She continued to sew, create, mend, fix, remake, or refit anything you could think of until her eyesight and shaky hands failed her in the last few years.
Farris was born into the loving family of Edwin (Ted) Roundy and Margaret (Retta) Ballard of Benson Ward, Utah. She was the seventh of seven daughters, who loved being together and made every occasion the place everyone wanted to be.
After graduation from high school Farris secured a job at the Cache County Clerk’s office where she was introduced to the love of her life, Douglas Crookston. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on their mutual birthdays, October 30, 1946. Together they had four sons, Kent (Patricia Rich), Clair (LaDell Popham), Ted (Laurie Steed), Nick (Lisa Hunt), and one daughter Connie (John Forsgren). Adding to her happiness, Farris was blessed with 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors from all walks of life to love, serve and enjoy.
Farris and Doug had many grand adventures and traveled a good share of the world together. They lived in Logan and Salt Lake City, Utah, Colorado, California, Kaysville and Layton, Utah and also to the fulfillment of their greatest dream Kenai, Alaska on Salamatof Beach.
Farris was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the principles and doctrine taught there. She served faithfully in many callings and loved traveling to New Zealand where she and Doug served a mission together.
Farris was preceded in death by her spouse Douglas and two sons Kent and Clair, also two great grandchildren Brigg and Gretta.
Farris would want us to give thanks to all the many wonderful people who served her and touched her life in any way. Also, from the whole family many thanks to Nick, Lisa and many others who made it possible for both Doug and Farris to remain in their home in Layton, surrounded by family, friends, and wonderful memories of a life well lived.
