On Friday, November 29, 2024, Fay Taylor Stacey passed away peacefully with her husband and children by her side. Our incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend lived 86 years full of love and compassion.
Fay was born in Ogden, Utah and was the oldest daughter of Gilbert and Zelda Taylor. Her two sisters; Judy Beckey, and Christie Bailey were an influential part of her life. Throughout her childhood Fay was always trying new things and becoming a friend and positive example to everyone around her. From cheerleading to being a class officer, she was often found in leadership positions. She was a proud graduate of Ben Lomond High School.
Soon after high school she met the love of her life, Vern Stacey. They married civilly in 1956, and a year later were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They started their family and had three daughters, Robin (Rick) Stanzione, Randee (Randy) Worster, Roxanne (Robert) Stein and one son, Vern (Susie) Stacey.
Fay received fulfillment from cutting and styling her three daughters’ hair, along with her neighbors and friends. This is when her prominence in the hair industry was born. She loved attending Weber State University and after completing her associates degree she secured her cosmetology license.
Her talent was impressive and quickly earned her a position working at Osmond Studios. Fay won the world cup in hairstyling and was named “North American Stylist of the Year.” The list goes on regarding her cosmetology accolades, but her involvement in the Ogden community was equally important to her. Because of Fay’s personal, civic and community accomplishments Glenn J. Mecham, former Mayor of Ogden City, proclaimed September 7, 1995, as “Fay Stacey Day.” She was a member of the Ben Lomond Hall of Fame.
She enjoyed the hair industry so much that she decided to start a cosmetology school in her hometown of Ogden, Utah. Stacey’s Beauty College was the home to many good memories for the Stacey family. It was a family-owned and operated business that taught much more than haircutting and coloring. In fact, the school was much more to her. She was passionate about demonstrating responsibility, integrity, and grit in everything she taught and touched.
Stacey’s Hands of Champions Beauty College was known across the United States as a top-tier facility. Fay travelled across the world to compete nationally with her students.
While the hair industry brought her joy, nothing gave her more gratification than her family. Her husband of 68 years was her biggest supporter ranging from building the school with his own two hands, to helping her raise their four children. Some of her favorite things to do as a mother was travel, host family parties, go boating and watch their families grow over the years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Fay was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She was always striving to learn more about them. Over the years she held many church callings, working with the young women and youth was by far her favorite.
There were many health challenges that arose in her life, but with her positive attitude and faith in the Lord, she was determined to push through. Her children and husband will attest that her strength and positivity were unmatched.
In Fay’s free time she was often found at Weber State football and basketball games, enjoying an ice cream cone at Farr’s with Vern, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Fay lived a full and beautiful life, to know her was to love her. She lit up every room with her infectious smile, and never judged her fellow man. The glass was always half full in her eyes and her legacy lives on.
In addition to her immediate family, Fay leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Fay will be greatly missed.
