Feliuai Tinei

Feliuai Tinei passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in Logan, Utah.

Feliuai was born on April 27, 1949, to Tinei Simona and Nukuolo Uelesone on the beautiful island of Nukulalelae, Tuvalu.

Feliuai was a commercial fisherman and spent most of his youth traveling. His love of fishing started at the age of 11 on Nukulalelae, Tuvalu. His travels afforded him great life experiences and passions that he upheld throughout his life. Feliuai met his wife, Nidrik Tinei, in Ebeye Kwajalein, Marshall Island and they were married on March 19, 1999.

Feliuai spoke 7 languages and was regarded by all that knew him as “one of the hardest working men.” He moved to Utah to be close to his children and grandchildren. He brought his passion for fishing to Gossner Foods where he was employed for 5 years.

Feliuai loved being a grandpa and loved nothing more than spoiling his grandkids. Aside from being an avid fisher, he enjoyed playing pickleball, swimming, mixing kava, dancing, barbecues, island music, card games, and being outdoors. He was a man that could not sit still and loved being active. He was an island boy through and through and being outdoors reminded him of home. 

Feliuai is survived by his loving wife, ten beautiful children, sixteen grandchildren, his older sister, and youngest brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two younger brothers. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse, Utah 84075. Friends and family can attend a viewing from 10:00am to 12:00pm, and a funeral ceremony from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at the mortuary. The burial will be held from 2:00 to 3:00pm at the Syracuse City Cemetery, 1250 South 1000 West, Syracuse.
