Fern R. Blaylock
NORTH OGDEN a" Fern Romer Blaylock, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
She was born December 30, 1922 in Brigham City, a daughter of Victor William and Sarah Ann Lofthouse Romer.
Fern married Harvey Carter Stokes on September 11, 1939 in Brigham City. He later died. She married Sherwood James Blaylock on December 15, 1960 in Brigham City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. He died July 1, 1984 in Idaho from a heart attack.
She was raised and educated in Brigham City and attended Lincoln Elementary and Box Elder High School. She later attended Weber State. She lived in North Ogden since 1962.
Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many auxiliaries in the church. She served in the Name Extraction Program for two years, an Ogden Temple worker for five years, and served a Temple Mission in the Ogden Temple. Fern was always active in temple work and performed over 5000 endowments for the deceased.
She retired from Mtn. Bell in 1978 after working for 29 years without taking any sick leave.
Fern was a member of the Communication Workers of America and served as their Vice President and President.
Surviving are one son and one daughter, Darrell (Carol) Stokes, Brigham City; Karen Stokes (Kent) Yates, Honeyville; one stepson and three stepdaughters, Steven (Patty) Blaylock, Santa Maria, CA; Jeri Blaylock (Orson) Christiansen, Sandy; Andrea Blaylock (Doug) Merrill, Brigham City; Susan Blaylock (James) Coleman, Roy; 26 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her brother Victor J. Romer, Brigham City; and her sister, Phyllis (Bud) Patrick, Copperton, UT.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, one son, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, one brother and one infant sister.
Family will greet friends at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Monday, January 10 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will begin 11 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
