Fern Anderson Crawford 1920 a" 2008
WASHINGTON TERRACE - Fern Anderson Crawford passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in Ogden, Utah.
She was born January 31, 1920 in Fairview, Utah to Elam and Elizabeth Peterson Anderson. She and her identical twin, Fawn, were the seventh and eighth of eight children.
She grew up in Fairview and attended Snow College where she met Maurice (Maury) Crawford, whom she married on June 8, 1943 in the Manti LDS Temple. She and Maury were blessed with 3 daughters: Camille (Gib) Wilde of Polson, MT; Karleen (John) Anderson of Clearfield; and Monica (Paul) Kelly of North Ogden.
She and Maury lived in Salt Lake City for a few years before moving the family to California where Maury finished his graduate studies. They liked California so much that Maury accepted a position as a professor at San Diego State University. They made San Diego their home for the next 40 years. During this time, Fern took advantage of the university experience and finished her bachelor''s degree in Elementary Education at SDSU. She chose to be a substitute teacher and loved working in that profession for 27 years. She always took a special interest in her grandchildren''s school work and their accomplishments.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various positions throughout her life, including that of Relief Society President.
Eventually, all three of Fern''s daughters left the San Diego area and moved to Utah and Montana. In 1994, Fern and Maury made the decision to return to Utah also. Fern really loved living in San Diego, but the love of being near her siblings, children, and grandchildren was stronger. They moved to Ridgemont Condominiums in Washington Terrace where they were warmly welcomed and formed many close friendships. After Maury passed away, those friends rallied around Fern and lovingly looked after her whenever family couldn''t be there. We, as a family, are very appreciative and grateful for all they have done.
She is survived by her three daughters, 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all seven of her siblings.
