Fern J. Kendrick Perkes passed away peacefully with her family by her side Thursday, April 29, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital.
She was born September 2, 1918 to George and Lillian Kendrick and raised in Providence. As an avid horsewoman, she won many awards, including first attendant to rodeo queen. Second of six daughters, she has remained very close to her sisters throughout the years. They are Ruth Campbell (deceased), Carol Smith, Logan, UT, Norma Monson, (deceased), Donna May Bowen, Orem, UT, and Georgine Saragoza, Sacramento, CA.
Fern married Lyman Perkes on January 5, 1938 in Ogden, Utah. Their vows were later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they enjoyed dancing, gardening and traveling. He died on December 21, 2001.
An active member of the LDS Church, she held many positions, including serving in the Sydney Australia LDS Mission with her husband. Up until her passing, she has been a visiting teacher for 75 years.
She worked for the Ogden Convalescent Center and the Ogden LDS Temple.
Fern was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also volunteered at the Ogden Family History Center.
She was proud of all ten of her children. They are Leon and Pat Wursten, Gerald and Carolyn Perkes, Brent and Betty Perkes, Carole and Jack Warner, Ron Perkes, Kathy and Terry Caselli, Annette and Mike Elzinga, Karen Lucero and Sandra Duncan. She has 53 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, that she loves and adores. The pride she had of her family was well known by everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyman, son Craig, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mom was so friendly with everyone she met. She had such a love for natures beauty and an unconditional love for her entire family and friends. Her beautiful sweet spirit was and still is felt by everyone who knew her.
Her proud smile, big hugs and kisses will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held Monday, May3rd at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
A viewing will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
