Fern Eileen Green Poll 1920 a" 2008
SOUTH WEBER a" Mom, you made it, it''s warm outside. Our precious Mom, Fern Eileen Green Poll, 87, joined her eternal companion on Monday, May 5, 2008. She died after a courageous battle with congestive heart and kidney failure, surrounded by her family at her home in South Weber. We know she is having a long awaited reunion with our Dad after 45 years.
She was born in Kanesville on the 29th day of September, 1920, to Charles Lawrence and Margaret Elizabeth Peterson Green. Born of goodly parents, she was the ninth child of ten.
Fern was raised on a farm, helping in the garden and with the hay. She learned a great work ethic, and she always worked hard. Her mother was an invalid for many years and mom was always there for her. She graduated from Weber High School.
She married the love of her life, Dale Lester Poll, in the Salt Lake Temple on November 16, 1938. They moved to South Weber where she spent the balance of her life. Dale passed away June 28, 1963. She married Earl Heninger on August 6, 1965. He died in November of 1997. His children are Shirley (Don) Pewtress, Carole (Brent) Thompson, Pat (Gene) Hopkins and Earl Jr. (Anne) Heninger; 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Fern was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings including, counselor in the Young Women''s and Relief Society, and later as President of those two organizations. She loved her calling as Gospel Doctrine teacher which she did for many years. Her faith and testimony of her Savior helped her through many trials in her life.
In April 2008, she was honored for being a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for 50 years. She enjoyed being a member and serving several times on the County Board. She also taught lessons in the South Weber Camp. She had great pride in her heritage. In 1938, she held the first "Ladies Club" meeting at her home and had been a member ever since. She loved the association with her friends. Our Mom and Dad started an extended family Christmas Eve party at their home and it is now held at the church with over 200 in attendance. Family members come from all over the United States to attend and the grandchildren love this special night. Fern made beautiful quilts for her children and adorable baby quilts for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for the talent of making delicious pies for every holiday.
Fern loved going on trips with Dale and her children. Fishing trips were part of her favorite times. She made a real cute fisherman. Mom was always excited to go to family events, birthday celebrations, the cabin, and the beach with her family.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Glen (Linda), Lynn (Kathy), Brent (Sondra), all of South Weber; Margie (Gary) Mayfield, Chattanooga, TN; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and three great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
Also surviving are one brother, Myron Green, West Point; a sister-in-law, Virginia Green, Layton; and brother-in-law, Orlen Karras, Roy. Fern is also survived by Dale''s loving siblings that have been a blessing in her life, June Poll, Paul and Beverly Warner, Mtn. Green; Donna Poll, Wayman and Louise Cash, Owen and Marie Cash, Duane and Judy Poll, all of South Weber; and Dick and Carolyn Child, West Haven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, three brothers and one great-grandson.
Heavenly Father watched over you as you worked hard, lived much, and became frail. He knew you had accomplished what you were sent here to do. Your Heavenly Father has wrapped His loving arms around you and taken you home, and we will always have you in our hearts. Your memory is our keepsake. We love you, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma and we are thankful for all you have given us.
We want to express sincere thanks to the caring staff at Bonneville Dialysis Center, and to Mom''s special friend and caregiver, Allison Checketts. She has truly been a blessing in our lives and the life of our mother.
