Ferrel E. Carter
Ferrel E. Carter passed away March 3, 2012 at home from natural causes. He was born October 14, 1915 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the oldest child of John F and Alice B Marchant Carter. Shortly after, the family moved to Ogden. Ferrel graduated from Ogden High School in 1934. He served in the Northern States LDS Mission from 1937 to 1939. While there, he met Myrtle Winger from Driggs, Idaho. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 10, 1940. They were the parents of six children: Linda, Bruce, Robert, Diane, Judy, and Kent. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1985.
He owned and operated Carter Supply Co. for 40 years. He belonged to Sons of the Utah Pioneers and was a member of Lions Club International and WSC Alumni Association. On June 14, 1986, he married Ila Jean Stuart Corkey. Ferrel loved and enjoyed his association with his children and extended family including 23 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. He had a solid testimony of the restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in numerous callings including Bishop, counselor in the Stake Presidency and Stake Mission President. He served as a Sealer in the Ogden LDS Temple, and a Patriarch, both for over 26 years.
Ferrel is survived by his wife, Ila Jean who has been a source of joy and comfort to him; son, Robert (Ellen); daughters, Linda (Jerry) Valentine, Diane (Grant) Stewart, Judy (Craig) Sundell; brother, Richard (Grace); sisters, Almina (Jim) Slaydon, Carol (Julian) Operhal; Ila''s family Pam (Jerry) Nelson, Jolene (Blake) Wilkinson, Denese (John) Borseth, DeeAnn Gibbons; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, Bruce and Kent; brothers, Maylon, Jack, Clarence, Everett, Alvin; granddaughter, Emily Sundell and great-granddaughter, Kiersten Carter.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 Country Hills Dr., Ogden. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the LDS Temple Assistance Fund.
