Ferrel Gailey

Ferrel S. Gailey

Ferrel S. Gailey was born in Syracuse, Utah on October 27, 1928, to Marlin S. and Laura Smedley Gailey, being the fourth of six children. He attended school at Syracuse Elementary, North Davis Junior and Davis High Schools. He lettered in baseball and enjoyed playing the French horn and trumpet in the band until the lure of the school operetta captured his interest.

Shirley Mae Warner stole his heart on a blind date just prior to his mission call to the Northern States Mission in 1948. Upon his return, he served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, ultimately being assigned to guard the Peace Talks on the 38th parallel. They were married on May 29, 1953, and have cared for each other for 64 years.

Ferrel and Shirley are the parents of three children: Randy Gailey (Terri) of Syracuse, Utah; Laurie Barker (Jerry) of Bountiful, Utah; and Bret Gailey (Stephanie) of Clinton, Utah. They have 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Dad was a co-owner of Hall and Gailey Inc., a construction company that specialized in heavy equipment operation. He became an expert in his field and is responsible for much of the subdivision and roadwork found along the Wasatch Front.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, and giving service to others through church and community service. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a Patriarch, Temple Sealer, High Councilor, Bishop, Elders Quorum President, Explorer Leader and Home Teacher. He and Shirley were privileged to serve in the Chicago Temple as missionaries.

Ferrel is survived by his brother Blain Gailey of Salt Lake City; his sisters, LaPriel Hunter of Herriman, Utah; and Sandra Alexander of Clinton, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Laura Gailey, sister, Donell Hansen, and brother, David Gailey.
