Fielding Hyde Rice

Fielding Hyde Rice, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

He was born on October 10, 1924 in Salt Lake City to Oscar Lee and Phebe Hyde Rice. He had fond memories of his childhood days spent in Metropolis, NV. He graduated from Gridley High School in California. Fielding married Mary Taylor on September 1, 1947, and they were blessed with three daughters. They resided in Clinton, Sunset, Hooper, Roy, St. George and presently in Layton.

He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He owned his own building construction business specializing in custom homes and built more than 150 homes and did countless remodeled jobs for over 50 years.

Fielding was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings. He was always generous with his time and willing to help others. He loved horses, farming, sports, camping, dancing and traveling. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Peggy (Edward) Elgert, Rebecca (Paul) Bruce and Patricia Baker, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a brother, Charles Rice and a sister, Marlene (Blaine) Hanson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet with friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Hooper Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
