Flora Packer Belnap

CLEARFIELD – Flora Packer Belnap, 86, slipped peacefully away from this life into the arms of her eternal companion on Saturday, December 10, 2016.  She was supported by her loving family both here and on the other side of the veil as she ended her struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease which took away much of what life was all about for Flora, communicating with friends and family, serving others, and experiencing the joy life always held for her.

Flora was born on August 10, 1930 in Riverdale, Idaho to Oren Mecham Packer and Pearl Christine Christensen Packer.  She spent many happy years growing up in Riverdale, Rexburg, and finally Ogden, Utah, graduating from Ogden High School.

Flora met her eternal sweetheart, Lamar Belnap, on a blind date and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 18, 1954.  Together they raised five children in Clearfield: Dennis Belnap (Toni) of Layton, Steven Belnap (Linda) of Maricopa, AZ; Larry Belnap (Connie) of Layton; Sandra Kruitbosch (Dale) of Clinton; and a son, Kyle Belnap (Sheila) who preceded her in death.  Lamar preceded her in death in 2011.  Her parents and siblings: Margie, Lavon, and Ivene; grandson, Joseph Bradley, and daughter-in-law, Pat Belnap also preceded her in death.  She is survived by her children; a brother, Ken Packer (Judy) of Sandy, UT; a sister-in-law, Donna Packer and Lamar’s brother, Dutch (Karen) Belnap of Ogden; 22 grandchildren, and close to 60 great-grandchildren.

Flora was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings.  Her favorite ones were ward and stake Relief Society President.  She found great joy in serving others and always served with all of her heart and soul.  She developed many life-long friends through those years of service.  As well as the friendships she and Lamar developed in the many years of “snow birding” in Yuma, AZ.  She was a good friend to all and always the first to welcome a stranger.

Flora was well known for her beautiful yard where she displayed her talent in working with plants and flowers.  She was a wonderful chef and hosted many gatherings in her home creating memories that her children and grandchildren cherish forever.  She was loved by everyone who came to know her and will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and aides that cared for her so carefully during her stay at Fairfield Village and an equal thanks for the great care she received from Hearts for Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden.
