Florence Eilander Schwitzer

On Tuesday, November 11, 2008, countless lives changed forever when a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend, Sister and Best Friend passed away.

Florence Catherine Eilander Schwitzer, was born in Ogden, Utah on June 27, 1928 to Weslie and Edna Little Eilander. Flossie, as she was better known, was one of seven children: Thomas Eilander, Blain Eilander, Ellen Nicolaides, Carleen Carson, John Eilander, and Beverly Nicolaides. Along with her brothers and sisters, Flossie worked hard, growing up on a farm in Wilson Lane.

Around the age of eighteen Flossie married her first husband Theodore Eilander. Flossie and Teddy, as she called him, were happily married for two years until Theodore passed away suddenly, leaving Flossie widowed at the age of twenty. Several years later she met John Schwitzer, her second husband. Together John and Flossie had two children, John Robert (Holley) Schwitzer and Deborah Lynne Schwitzer (Jim Huffman). The four of them went on many camping trips and Flossie always loved to fish and camp with her family. Family was always an important part of Flossie''s life. She loved taking care of anyone who would let her. After twenty eight years of marriage John and Flossie divorced. After the divorce, Flossie acquired her assistant nursing degree, she then went on to work at Manor Care Nursing Home where she touched even more lives, again the need to take care of anyone who would let her shined through. Flossie worked at the nursing home for several years, until she retired.

Flossie had many loves and talents. Cooking, CrAche, knitting, reading, fishing, and camping; just to name a few. Flossie was an amazing person. Anyone who met her was captured by her quick wit, sense of humor, stories, and her laughter.

She had six grand children; James John (Heather) Schwitzer, Jessica Ann Schwitzer (Chris Holmes), Crystal Tree, Lisa Todd Rhees (Mike Snoy), Stephanie Jean Schwitzer, and Sierra Christine Schwitzer. She had two great grand children: Erin Ann Schwitzer and Macie James Schwitzer. She also had countless nieces and nephews, and would be very upset if we failed to mention Jerry L. Russell.

She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Eilander, her brother Blain Eilander, her sister Ellen Nicolaides, sister-in-law Marie Eilander, husband Theodore Eilander, friend John Schwitzer, and grandson Jacob John Schwitzer.

The family would also like thank Sue Hastings and the staff at Roy Family Medical Center for taking such good care of Flossie.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd.
