Florence “Flossie” Stephens
OGDEN – Florence “Flossie” Stephens, 95, passed away Friday, June 15, 2007 from causes incident to age. She was loved dearly by her many friends and family. She cared about her neighbors, sharing vegetables and fruits from her well-tended garden. She always said she was very lucky because she had never had an enemy. All of us will miss her sweet smile, and the stories she loved to share.
Flossie and her fraternal twin, Laurence “Ole” were born in Brooklyn, Iowa on July 5, 1911 to Martin and Emma Dutro. She had two older brothers, Harold and Lloyd and one older sister, Edna Hansen. Flossie is the last of her immediate family to pass on.
She married Frederic Lang in January of 1932 in Muscatine, Iowa. Two daughters were born of this union, Donna and Vanetia. They were later divorced. She then moved to Ogden where she met Kenneth R. Stephens and they were married on July 19, 1945. In 1946 she gave birth to a son, Brent.
She loved to travel, and made many trips to Iowa to visit family, and tried to see all the National Parks in the United States.
Flossie worked along side her husband at American Food Stores and Smith’s Food Store. Ken’s passing came unexpectedly on April 3, 1992. She then moved to Salem, Oregon in 1994 where she lived with her daughter Vanetia who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Baptist Church. After returning to Utah she resided at Wasatch Care Center.
Surviving are her children, Donna Delores Witner, Sugarloaf, PA; Kenneth Brent (Barbara) Stephens, Ogden; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
At her request, she would like family and friends to meet for a graveside service that will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
