Floyd Ernstrom Fletcher

May 1, 1926 ~ May 25, 2015

OGDEN – “My name is Floyd Ernstrom Fletcher.  I was born on May 1, 1926 to David S.  and Mable C. Ernstrom Fletcher in Ogden, Utah.  I had a full and enjoyable life.  I was a B-29 airplane student pilot in World War II.  I graduated from Weber College and University of Utah in business.

I was interested in gems and minerals, a Rock Hound, and loved all of Southern Utah.  I was instrumental in establishing the Golden Spike Gem and Mineral Show in Ogden in 1948.  It held the National Rock and Mineral Show in Ogden in 1977.  I also loved the “Greatest Snow on Earth”!  I was an avid skier from 1940, the start of Snowbasin, until 2010.  I was a ski patrol leader at one time and helped in many ways to assist its growth.  Through some of my efforts, Snowbasin became the only ski area in Utah to be able to hold the Downhill Races for 2002 Olympics which helped to bring them to Utah, something I am very proud of.

I was in the optical business for 43 years and owned Fletcher Optical Center in Ogden.  I retired in 1989.

I married Ursula A. Cilensek “Cindy”, on December 5, 1954.  We were married 49 beautiful years.  She passed away in 2003.

I am survived by one brother, Lewis LeGrande Fletcher, Nauvoo, Illinois; one sister, Norma L. Egginton, Roy, Utah; and my longtime companion, Jeanie Richards.

I am leaving with a smile on my face and with my ski boots on – because really – I would rather be skiing!”

Cremation entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
