Floyd William Kunzler, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 of causes incident to age.

He was born June 19, 1926 in Willard, Utah to William and Elsa Kunzler, the oldest of 13 children.

Floyd attended Box Elder High School and upon graduating, was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Medical Corps during World War II.

After returning from military service, he courted and married Erva Barker on November 10, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, where they were sealed by Matthew Cowley. Floyd left a week later to serve a two-year LDS mission to northern California. Upon his return , Floyd and Erva started their family and together they had six sons and two daughters.

They bought a little store with a gas station in Pleasant View that they operated while Floyd attended college. Floyd and Erva also owned and managed several real estate properties.

He served continuously in the Church, including callings as Ward Clerk, Stake Sunday School President and Ward High Priest Group Leader. He also served a stake mission and worked in the Ogden LDS Temple.

He was employed at Hill Air Force Base for 35 years where he was a training specialist, electronic technician, instructor supervisor and where he arranged maintenance training for personnel of many foreign governments.

Floyd was dedicated to Scouting his entire life and enjoyed being a Scoutmaster, District Chairman and working with special needs scouts. He was honored with the Silver Beaver award. He taught numerous merit badge classes to young scouts and he was still teaching the Citizenship and Communications merit badges at age 70.

He loved his annual trips to Yellowstone, canoeing and fishing with his sons and close friends. He was an avid reader and loved playing tic-tac-toe with his grandchildren.

He enjoyed serving in the political process, having worked for years with his wife as a voting judge and a registration agent.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Erva, Ogden; their children, William Read (Lynn) Kunzler, Ogden/Oregon; Gloria K. (Craig, deceased) Olson, Syracuse; Ron R. (Debbie) Kunzler, Pleasant View; Arlo F. (Jill) Kunzler, Ogden; Sean L. (Shannon) Kunzler, Uintah; Michael P. (Christie) Kunzler, Kaysville; Sue Ann K. (Kenneth) Burton, Ogden; Jed W. (Jennifer) Kunzler, Herriman; 40 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2nd at 12 noon at the Taylor Canyon Ward Chapel, 1643 a€" 26th Street, Ogden.

The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Willard Cemetery.
