Forrest G. Odekirk “Ode”
February 14, 1929 ~ January 21, 2016
FARR WEST – Forrest G. Odekirk “Ode”, 86, passed away from complications with pneumonia on January 21, 2016. He was born on February 14, 1929, in Willowbrook, California, the son of John Ray and Mattie Marie Odekirk.
He married his sweetheart of 64 years, Vonda Long on April 24, 1948. They had five children. Ode was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family and they spent many vacations hunting and fishing together.
After Ode retired from DDO as a Quality Inspector, he started his own machinist business, Valley Centennial. But his true profession was that of “Master Wheeler and Dealer”. He always found a deal that was “just too good to pass up”.
Ode and Vonda built their dream home together in Huntsville, Utah and their vacation home in Scare Canyon. As a family they spent 40 years enjoying these properties.
He volunteered for many years for the Weber County Jeep Patrol, where he flew search and rescue missions. He had a very caring heart and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Ode was an avid Outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. Deer, elk, geese, duck, and salmon were a staple on the family dinner table. His love for the outdoors rubbed off on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They are also avid hunters and fishermen.
He was a free spirit and he loved flying his Piper Cub airplane. Whether it was landing on the Salt Flats, at his duck club, at his cabin in Scare Canyon, at his home in Huntsville or just flying somewhere for a visit, flying was one of the great pleasures in his life. Ode and Vonda also enjoyed many motorcycle trips with their friends. They traveled throughout the western United States pulling along their little tent trailer and even spent three weeks touring Mexico with a group of their friends.
Ode is survived by a daughter, Gail Baird of Farr West; and three sons, Lloyd Odekirk of Plain City; Kyle Odekirk and Kim Odekirk both of Ogden; 16 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Ode was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vonda; son, Wade J. Odekirk; grandson, Cody R. Odekirk; one brother and one sister.
