Frances Marie Sherfield Cunningham

March 1, 1928 – November 20, 2016

CLEARFIELD – Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Frances Marie Sherfield Cunningham, 88, left us on Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Clearfield, UT after battling Lewy bodies Dementia.  She was born on March 1, 1928 in Ellettsville, IN.  She was the fifth child out of eleven born to Edison Sherfield and Pauline Landis. She spent her youth in the Ellettsville area before moving north to Marion, Indiana where she met and married Max A. Cunningham on April 3, 1953 in Converse, IN.  Frances and Max lived in Indiana, Colorado, Ohio, Washington D.C., Utah, and Great Britain and back to Utah while he served in the U.S. Air Force. She has lived in Davis County for 52 years, of which 42 years were in Clearfield.  Max died Feb. 8, 2002.

She had a passion for bowling; she had been a regular at Davis Lanes in Layton for the past 45 years until 2014 when her condition made it impossible to continue.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and embroidery.  She could always be found working in her yard and her vegetable garden.  She loved cooking and making goodies for her children and neighbors.

She is survived by her children; three daughters, Linda S. (Wes) Hammersteadt, Sandy, UT; Annetta K. (Richard) Johansen, Spring City, UT; Teresa A. (Rand) Rhodes, Evanston, WY; two sons, Roscoe M., Taylor, UT; and Fred I. (Shauna), Willard, UT; one sister, Mary R. Isom, Bloomington, IN; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Cunningham, Jonesboro, IN. 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way and 2 step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and seven brothers, two great-grandchildren and in-laws.

A special thanks to Dr. Jeffry DeGrauw and his staff for their professional care and friendship throughout the years. To Sallie Huntington and her staff for the kindness and loving care they have shown to her and to our family while she was at Chancellor Gardens. To Stephanie and her staff at CNS Hospice for their kindness and help throughout this journey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
