OGDEN, Utah – Frances Garcia Gibson, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024. She was born September 28, 1936, in Junction, Kimble County, Texas. She was the youngest of six children to Augustine Garcia, Sr and Juanita Gonzales Corpus.
Frances was raised in Junction, Texas, and in Los Angeles County, California, educated in local public and private schools. She lived in Texas, California, and Utah. Frances worked as a Spanish Interpreter for the Los Angeles County Superior Court System, bookkeeper for a pneumatic tool company, and as a registered nurse. She enjoyed volunteering as a nurse volunteer for the Los Angeles General Medical Center and later as a nurse during the1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Frances was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Los Angeles and in Ogden, and for the Lung Association in Los Angeles. She also participated in a health topic talk show in Spanish. While with the American Red Cross she earned a Spanish Language teaching credential and taught the staff the Spanish language which enabled them to assist the local community. Frances also was a volunteer for a local Food Bank in Rosemead, California and in Ogden, Utah. She was also a volunteer for the Union Station in Ogden.
Frances enjoyed taking care of her children during their formative years and later her cat Margie. She liked crafts especially decorating t-shirts and sweaters, reading, playing the guitar and singing. Frances was a loving and caring woman and will be missed by all that knew her.
Frances is survived by her children, Kenneth Raya of Utah, and Rene Raya of Oregon, Holiday Lammon of Washington, and Allison Gibson of California; grandchildren, Darlene (Rene) Juarez of Utah, Michelle (Doug) Kircher of Arizona, and Carrissa Williams of California, John (Kim) Rigali of Arizona, Nathan Fuentes of Nevada, and Nicholas Raya of Oregon; great-grandchildren, Cherese, Daniel, and Adam of Utah; Ashlee, Emilee, Nathan, and Abigail of Arizona; great-great-grandchildren, Isabella, Alex, Alexis and Erick and Jesse of Utah; and sister, Lasara of California and Ray of Texas. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Maria, Augustine Jr, John, Jose, Jesse, Lupe and Modesto; and great-grandson, Michael.
The family would like to thank the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mount Lewis 5th and 6th Wards, Mount Lewis Ogden Utah Stake for the love and assistance provided to Frances.
The family also thanks Ogden Regional Medical Center, McKay-Dee Medical Center, Mobile Physicians, Valeo Home Health and Hospice, Suncrest Hospice, and Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary for the love and help provided during this difficult time.
