Frances Ilene Hardy Heward Hawks

Our loving mother, grandmother and sister, Frances Hawks, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2014. She was born May 3, 1928 in Kemmerer, Wyoming, to Elsworth Colton Hardy and Mary Elizabeth Reese. She was raised in Vernal and Price and graduated from Carbon High School in 1947.

Frances attended and graduated from St. Benedict's School of Nursing in 1950 as a registered nurse. She served as a public health nurse, school nurse and nursing supervisor at St. Benedict's Hospital. Frances was a dedicated nurse for over 33 years. She will be remembered for her caring and compassionate service.

She married Ray Heward January 20, 1951, they later divorced. From that union they had three children. Frances married Marvin R. Hawks November 29, 1980. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Frances was an active civic volunteer with the Syracuse Lady Lion's Club. She also served in a variety of callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Marv enjoyed dancing and were avid supporters of Weber State basketball. They traveled extensively with friends to Europe, Australia, and all over the United States. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her yard and going for walks. She was devoted to her family, and always made birthdays and holidays special occasions. She delighted in bringing her families together. Frances cherished a close and loving relationship with her sisters.

Frances is survived by her children, Lynn Donaldson, Mary Jane (Jim) Arrant, and Gary (Michelle) Heward; Marv's children Charlotte Kearsley, Jaylene (Wendell) Page, and Carla (Rob) Parks; 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters June Klapakis, Mary Helen (Ray) White and Joanne (Dick) Thomson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother-in-law Phil Klapakis, children Kathy and Eddie Pace, and granddaughter Kari Lynn Flint.

The family thanks Peach Tree Place and Symbii Home Health and Hospice for their constant and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8th at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Friends may visit the family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
