Frances M. Twist 1918 - 2010 OGDEN – Frances Margaret Van Aelstyn Twist, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at her granddaughter’s home. Mom was born May 15, 1918 at home in Sidney, Nebraska, to Herman Harris and Mary Catherine Van Aelstyn. She was one of nine children raised on a truck farm and was the last surviving member of her family. She attended school in Sidney, Nebraska. When she graduated she went into nurses training, but had to leave this training to help take care of a sister who developed multiple sclerosis. She later went to work at the Plains Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mom married Wilber “Bud” Earl Twist on September 30, 1939 in Sidney, Nebraska. They were married for 49 years. When Dad enlisted with the U. S. Army during World War II, Mom followed him to various parts of the country. They moved to Ogden, Utah before Dad was shipped out to the Pacific. Mom worked for Ma Bell for a while, but most of her time was spent as a homemaker and she was also active as a scout leader in Girl Scouts. She was an avid Jazz fan. She also liked playing bingo and cards, crocheting and planting a vegetable garden each year even in her later years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah until the last few months when she attended St. James Catholic Church. Frances is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo (Michael) Hanson, Roy, UT; sister-in-law, Mildred (Edward – deceased) Van Aelstyn, Kimball, NE; brother-in-law, Victor (Florence – deceased) Chambers, Anniston, AL; two grandchildren, Mary Jean Weakland, Farr West, UT; Mark (Mari) Hanson, Salt Lake City, UT; seven great-grandchildren and her little dog Chico. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven sisters and one brother. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 495 No. Harrison Blvd. Friends and family may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday, March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. where Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Frances will be laid to rest next to her husband Wilber at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT. The family would like to thank the many physicians, nurses, therapists and Legacy Hospice personnel who cared for Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. We love and miss you Gram.
