Frank N. Terry
OGDEN – Frank Nebeker Terry, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the age of 94 at home surrounded by family.
Frank was born September 1, 1914 in Marriott, Utah, a son of William Z. and Naomi Nebeker Terry. Frank lived most of his life in Ogden, Utah and attended Utah State Agricultural College. In the 1930’s he worked on the railroad as a candy dancer. As a scout he hiked the Grand Canyon from Rim to Rim, and completed a 100 mile hike.
Frank married Gertrude A. Berghout on June 12, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gertrude preceded him in death on January 2, 2000.
Frank was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission to Germany in 1939 for three short months before the war required him to move to the Southern States Mission. He served during World War II in the Pacific in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After serving his country Frank returned home to raise four boys in Ogden, Utah. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 40 years in payroll.
Frank was a kind man of few words. He loved his family, his Church and those who he associated with. He served as ward clerk for so many years his family thought it was a life-time calling. He enjoyed genealogy, temple work, spending time with his family, and playing checkers. He climbed Malan’s Peak at the age of 80. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. We will miss you dad. We want to thank particularly Robb and Melissa Dibbell, his grandchildren who cared for him in his last years of life.
Frank is survived by two sons, Richard Frank Terry, Owen Ira (Karin) Terry, and four grandchildren, Crystal (Derek) Anderson, Melissa (Robb) Dibbell, Brent S. Terry, and Nathan I. Terry.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gertrude, and by two sons, John Allen Terry and Douglas Berghout Terry.
The family expresses their gratitude to Hearts for Hospice for their care and compassion, especially the music therapy he enjoyed so much.
