Frank Oliver Tremea

August 17, 1937- December 14, 2017

Dad was born on a farm in West Warren, Utah, to parents Oliver and Josephine Rizzi Tremea. Growing up on the farm he was taught to work hard and to love his Italian heritage. His first language was Italian (Nonese Dialect) which he maintained throughout his life. As a youth he was involved in all sports, baseball being his favorite, the 4-H program, and enjoyed extended family parties. He graduated from Weber High in 1955 and attended Utah State University graduating with a Masters degree in Education. He was honored to be selected to serve as a foreign exchange student to the homeland of his Trentini-Italian forefathers. Dad cherished his Catholic upbringing.

He married Myrna Bouwhuis, who he met as an 8th grader at Wahlquist Jr. High School, on August 10, 1961, at Ma and Pa’s Restaurant. They bought a home in Clinton in 1962. Here they raised their family and lived for 53 years until they moved to Chancellor Garden’s Assisted Living Center in 2016. His most cherished memories are from living in Clinton. For the past 15 years they have enjoyed their winter home in Hurricane, Utah, where they also made many lifelong friends. Our family was honored to share our Dad with the thousands of people that he came into contact with. He always made sure that no one ever went without and treated everyone with respect. Dad enjoyed his 30 plus years at Roy Junior High School as teacher and vice-principal and 40 years as Roy Recreation Director. He was honored to have Roy Park and Roy Junior High's gymnasium bear his name.

Dad had the opportunity to serve as the Utah State Jaycees President, and Vice President and Chaplain of the US National Jaycees. Some of his favorite memories are being able to introduce Reverend Billy Graham at a National Jaycee Convention and meet Harold B. Lee, President of the LDS church to promote the family values through the Family Home Evening Program, even before he was a member of the LDS Church.

Everyone knew about Dad’s Italian Heritage whether it be from the Museum in his home, or the food that was shared with others on any occasion. Most importantly, Dad loved his Italian Family. We would often hear him speak perfect Italian as he would be on the phone with dear friends in Italy. He was a man of carrying on traditions. Those traditions will be continued through future generations because of the service that he gave to all the Trentini families that immigrated from Italy to the coal mines of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and then to West Weber, Utah. He served as an officer of the Ogden Trentini/Friendly Club for the past 50 years. Dad knew everyone and everyone he knew he loved.

Dad loved to travel with his friends and family on annual vacations. He visited almost every state, and many countries, with the opportunity to visit Italy numerous times. The most cherished one being in 2011 when he took his entire family to celebrate his and Mom’s 50th Wedding Anniversary. He was able to have us all stay in the homes of our ancestors in the little villages of Cloz and Bieno. It was his lifetime dream fulfilled and we will always have those memories.

In 1973, he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Within a year he was called to serve as the Elder’s Quorum President. We were sealed as an eternal family on March 1, 1974 in the Ogden Temple. Since that time he has felt it an honor to serve in the Clinton 4th ward in many capacities. He thoroughly enjoyed serving with the youth as scoutmaster, Young Men’s President, and as Bishop. He has been a member of the Clinton 4th ward since its organization. He was reserved about sharing his testimony of the Gospel in word, but his life was a true example of our Savior and His teachings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Josephine Tremea, a baby sister, his in-laws Albert and Lola Bouwhuis, along with many friends and extended family. His legacy continues to grow as he is survived by his devoted wife, Myrna, and children, Terry and Wendy Tremea, Scott and Tanya Tremea, Maria Allred, Chris and Michelle Tremea. All of his grandchildren knew they were loved by Grandpa. They also survive him. They are: Jennifer, and Addam & Jessica Tremea, Angela & Marc Harrison, Talen, and Tanner & Shanna Tremea, Briana & Jacob Black, Andrew and Brent Allred, Tayler, Garett, Gavin, and Gage Tremea and three great grandchildren: Hayley and Emrey Harrison and Raylan Tremea. He is also survived by one brother, Ron Tremea along with his wife and family and many friends and relatives who will also miss him.

Although small in stature, his life and spirit were enormous in his love for others. In his written history when asked what he would prefer to be remembered by, his answer was, “To be known for helping others”. We know that he has achieved his goal.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Clinton 4th Ward Chapel, 2223 N 1000 W. The family will meet with friends Tuesday, December 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery

We as his family would like to thank those many family and friends that have provided service to both Mom & Dad throughout their lives. We especially would like to thank the staff at Chancellor Gardens Memory Care for the love and support received in the last year.

In lieu of flowers, Dad would be honored for any donations to be made to the Trentini Italian Scholarship Fund at Wasatch Peaks Credit Union in Dad's name. Dad's dream was to see the success of the Trentini Ogden Club and getting the youth involved in honoring their heritage.
