Franklin Alex

Franklin Alex passed away of complications related to MS, on August 15, 2015. Frank was born in Roberts, Idaho, on January 30, 1934, the third son of Greek Immigrants John and Katherine (Anastasopoulos) Alex. The family moved to Utah when Frank was young and where he remained the rest of his life. Frank’s family settled in Layton and Frank attended Davis High School from where he graduated in 1952. Frank enrolled at the University of Utah and in 1955 he traveled to Greece where he met the love of his life and future wife, Elizabeth Karavakis, they later married in 1956.
Frank graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy from the U of U in 1957. After working at a number of jobs, Frank settled on a career at Hill Air Force Base. Frank later received his MBA and PhD in Metallurgical Science, from the University of Utah. Frank was instrumental in helping to establish the Greek community in Ogden, Utah and helped in building the Greek Orthodox Church which remains today.
Although he had a few hobbies such as painting, Frank’s true love was work and he went on to become a professional metallurgical consultant and he owned and developed a number of industrial properties. Frank’s mind was constantly thinking and he invented devices that would help people with illnesses similar to his own.
Frank is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his brother, James; his three sons, John D., George F., and Michael G. Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved brother, Peter.
Throughout his life Frank made a number of friends whom he treasured and who remained friends through the course of Frank’s life. Frank will be missed by many and as charity was an integral part of Frank’s life, his family wishes that donations be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
The family also wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at North Canyon Care Center for their excellent care of Frank over the past few weeks.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, 674 42 nd Street, South Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Trisagion service at 7:30 pm at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. A luncheon will follow the interment at the church.
