CLEARFIELD a€" Fred Henry (Hank) Beers of Rome, NY and Clearfield, UT died at North Davis Hospital, after a short illness, on December 13, 2008. He was born in Port Jervis, NY on October 3, 1932 to Howard D. Beers and Martha Lucinda Woods.

He grew up in Rome where he attended Rome Free Academy and played Jr. Varsity basketball. Upon graduation he joined the Army and served in Korea.

Dad married the love of his life, Martha Irene Smith on September 28, 1957. The couple started their family in Rome with three children, and completed the six-pack with their fourth child, in Clearfield after the move to Utah in 1965.

Dad loved to ski and volunteered for the ski patrol for many years at Snow Basin and Powder Mountain. He volunteered and served his community in many ways; as an umpire and referee in numerous local athletic programs, volunteer medic for rodeos and other events, driver for meals on wheels and smoke jumpers, and school bus driver for Davis County; just to mention a few. He was always supportive of his children''s activities, becoming a referee for gymnastics and judo and was his children''s biggest fan.

Dad served in the Navy Reserves for 30 years. He retired from work at Hill Air Force Base in 1987 with 34 years'' service.

Survived by son, Dean H. (Terri) Beers, Bremerton, WA. daughters, Dawn Y. Lyons, Clinton, UT; Darla J. Beers, Clearfield, UT; Danielle M. (Lonnie) Allen, Pleasant View, UT; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, one sister, Esther Boddy, FL.

Preceded in death by his wife Martha.

Ultimately, dad''s life was about service to others and he was always there when needed.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 2025 West 5700 South Roy, Utah. Friends and family may call Thursday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
