Fred H. Bodily

Fred H. Bodily Fred H. Bodily passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009 of natural causes. He was born March 1, 1921 to Earl M. and Zella Higgs Bodily in Syracuse, Utah. He grew up in Syracuse and Layton. He went to Davis High School. He met Evelyn Minton at school and they were married on January 24, 1939. They moved to Kaysville. He worked for his father driving and repairing heavy duty equipment. He went to work at Hill AFB as one of the first employees. World War II broke out and he was drafted into the Navy because of his knowledge for repairing engines so well. He served on the USS Yorktown. His ship encountered many hits and he was wounded on one of them, when he returned home he went back to work at Hill AFB. His wife died shortly after. He married Trilba Gill, they moved to Clearfield. While still working at Hill AFB, he started his own business as a car dealer and auto repair shop (Bodily Auto Sales). He was on the Hill Rescue Team and was called out many times on rescues that involved planes going down in the Great Salt Lake, drowning in the Snake River in Idaho, and lakes around Utah, because of the large boat he owned, which he built his self. After retiring from Hill AFB he continued running his car dealership, he and Trilba took up another interest because of their love for boating and fishing they started commercial fishing in the summers out of Illwaco, Washington, which took them out to the Pacific Ocean. They loved fishing on the ocean for salmon and Halibut. After his wife Trilba died, he continued to fish on the oceans in the summers with his children and grandchildren. He married Lola Beth Thompson they enjoyed fishing and traveling together. He loved boating, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Beth, three children Christine Teen (Bob) Williams of Layton; Fred Richard Dick Bodily of Clearfield; Cyle J. (Linn) Bodily of West Point; one brother Kenneth (Jackie) Bodily of California; step-children Larry (Diana) Thompson, Lola (Hersh) Ipaktchian, Dick (Vicki) Thompson, Marjeane Thompson, Linn (Cyle) Bodily, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Evelyn and Trilba, two brothers, Frank and Dean Bodily, sister, Beth Vogt, step-son Clead Thompson. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Monday from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery. Thanks to the hospice care that he received, very special thanks to Natalie, Anna Beth, Alina and Dana.
