Fred H. Dawson

Fred H. Dawson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 20, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His kind, gentle and generous ways will be remembered by those who knew him best and loved him most.

Fred was born May 22, 1921 in Henefer, the oldest child of Jeston and Marie Danks Dawson. He was raised and educated in Henefer, graduating from North Summit High School and then attended Utah State Agricultural College.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp 8th Airforce during World War II in the European Theater for 3 A½ years.

On March 2, 1950, Fred married the love of his life, Ruth Widdison, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was the loving, caring Dad to one son, Larry (Sharla) Dawson, West Haven; three daughters, Brenda (Doug) Child, North Platte, NE; Dixie (Keith) Lauritzen, Sandy; and Kathy (Jack) Hawks, Glendale, AZ. He also loved and was very proud of his 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was employed at Hill Air Force Base for 31 years, retiring in 1976.

Fred was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in both Ward and Stake positions. He was an Ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for 24 years which brought joy and fulfillment to him. He treasured the many friends he made serving in the temple.

He had a quick wit and a twinkle in his eye as he told many jokes and stories relating to any and all situations. He was a "handyman" and could fix anything. His genius was he could see solutions to problems and the ability to make any puzzle easy. He liked to find cars that needed repair and make them drivable. He would then turn them over to a grandchild or anyone in need.

Fred is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, two sisters, Gwen Smith, Orem; Ila Stembridge, Peoa; and three brothers, Kenneth, Coalville; Seth and Marvin, Both of Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harland, and a sister, Donna Smith.

The family wishes to thank Marilyn Schiffman and Cynthia Richins of Vista Care Hospice for their special care.
