Fred L. Garcia

May 28, 1928-April 24, 2016

With his family by his side, Fred peacefully left us on April 24, 2016 to walk happier trails.  We are so grateful that he is now free from the pain and suffering of his 87 year old, worn out body.

He was born May 28, 1928 to Antonio J. Garcia and Naomi Ruybalid in Monte Vista, Colorado where he learned to love the outdoors and dogs.

After serving in the United States Navy he married the love of his life, Lorraine Hegsted.  They have four children: Linda (Brad) Keyes, Christine (Kelly) Turner, Steven (fiancé, Tara Butler) and Vicky (Mike) Babinsky, eight grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by three sisters and a brother; predeceased by five siblings, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A natural born tinkerer and handyman, there wasn’t much he couldn’t make or fix given enough duct tape, epoxy and baling wire. Always one to see a better way to make things work, the modifications he made around the house and to every motorized thing he owned were often feats of engineering magic.

His last magical feat was somehow finding the strength to kiss his beloved wife of 66 years goodbye. We will miss his smile and quick sense of humor.

The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Annliza Piacitelli, his PCP, and the team from Hearts for Hospice for their service and compassion.  We don’t know how we would have navigated this journey without you.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family one hour prior to services at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or any Humane Society.
