Frederick Rakosky

Frederick Shelburn Rakosky, 88, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.  He was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1926 to Joseph and Rebecca Eckert Rakosky.  He joined the Army Air Corps on April 10, 1944 and was discharged on June 15, 1946.

Frederick married Prudence Cordova on January 13, 1968 in Layton, Utah.  He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  His family always came first.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing with his wife and friends; to the very end, a gentleman of the old school.

He worked as a field services manager for Hill Air Force Base.  Fred was a devote member of the Holy Family Church.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, a lifetime member of 3 rd and 4 th degree.  While living in Layton he was a member of St. Rose of Lima where he preformed the duties of Lector and Communion Minister.

Frederick is survived by his loving wife, Prudence Rakosky; daughter Sylvia (Gerry) Scott; son, David (Lorrie) Rakosky; grandchildren, Kaylene (Ryan) Sandall, Jason Scott, Casey, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Madelyn; sisters, Betty Salvonich and Joanie Fegley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rebecca Rakosky; sister, Louise Bucci; and brothrs, Joseph Rakosky, Jr. and Harry Rakosky.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. with a Rosary and visitation at 10:00 a.m., both at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5550 South, Ogden.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

The family would like to thank the staff from Applegate, who lovingly assisted Fred while at home, and the staff at George Wahlen Veteran’s Home for their wonderful care of Fred during these past five months.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Holy Family Church or the George Wahlen Veteran’s Home in Ogden.

Go my love, picking cherries, picking cherries, under a strawberry moon.  -Me
