Our loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, Fredrick Grant Thacker, returned to his Father in Heaven on Saturday, May 7, 2011 surrounded by his family from complications of surgery.

Fred was born September 14, 1931 in Mount Emmons, Utah to LeRoy and Weltha Osborn Thacker. He was the 11th of 14 children. He graduated from Altamont High School in 1949.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

On September 14, 1951, Fred married the love of his life, Alvornia Thompson. They became eternal sweethearts when they were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple on June 18, 1988. Together they raised four children and spent their lives loving each other. He was a lifetime member of the LDS Church. He loved his family and spending time with the children and grandchildren.

He was employed for 37 years at Hill Air Force Base as a Master Electrician. He also owned and operated a farm for 55 years.

His hobbies were farming, growing delicious vegetables, beef and pork. He loved camping, fishing, dancing, hunting and watching the PBR Bull riding. He enjoyed traveling and experiencing the world.

Fred had an infectious laugh and smile. He loved pie, sweet rolls and treats. He was the grandchildren''s taxi, if they needed a ride, his truck wheels never stopped. He loved to sing and read stories to the grandchildren. He was involved in all of their lives and activities. He is more than what his titles of Father, Husband, Grandpa and Father-in-law suggest. He is an everyday fixture in our hearts and in our lives. There will be a noticeable void where he had a place in our days. He was our hero and he had TRUE GRIT.

He has two grandchildren currently serving missions and one will be entering the MTC in June.

Fred is survived by his wife, Alvornia; their children, Grant (Debbie) Thacker, Olive Adele (Alan) Parker, Wanda (Dan) Parker, Deanna (Mike) Hill; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with three more expected this summer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, five brothers and one great-granddaughter.

A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the CVTU and ICU at McKay-Dee Hospital.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, May 13th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment with Military Honors will be held at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lindquistmortuary.com
