Freeman McCrary, 92, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at McKay-Dee Hospital.

He was born June 21, 1920 in Downey, Idaho to John Chester McCrary and Cecil Elmina Gibbs. He attended schools in Osgood and Ammon, and made a career in electronics which he used to support his family.

On July 19, 1956, Freeman married Betty Lou Heath in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, binding his family together for time and all eternity. You never saw one without the other. Theirs has been a life of companionship and caring for and serving each other.

Freeman was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the days of assignments to work on the welfare farms of the church, Freeman would be one of the first each week at the farm to care for the crops assigned to their ward.

He retired from Hill Air Force Base. His love of farming and working with his hands has passed on to his posterity. His family was the greatest joy in his life. He enjoyed serving others and hard work. He loved lapidary and the joy he received by polishing a rock to discover its real beauty. He loved discovering and displaying the beauty of those rocks and loved to share them with others. He taught lapidary at both the Kaysville and Clearfield Senior Citizens Centers for several years; his last class was two weeks ago.

Freeman is survived by the love of his life and eternal sweetheart, Betty Lou McCrary; two children, Peggy Jo (David) Ornelas and Dale John (Debbie) McCrary; sister LaRue (Joe) Bell of Idaho Falls; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Merlin John McCrary, LaVor Gibbs McCrary, Glade William McCrary, sisters Monda Cecil McCrary, Beverly Monson, Connie Joan Connell, daughter-in-law Cathy McCrary and granddaughter Brittney Lee Ornelas.

Special thanks to Dr. Joel Porter and his staff and the Golden Corral team for their love and service to our beloved husband and father. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 30th at 11 a.m. at the Whisper Wood Ward Chapel, 2700 South 1000 West, Syracuse.

The family will meet with friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
