Fusaye Nakamura Kano

Fusa Kano, 88, crossed over into the Pure Land on October 17, 2012 in Roy, Utah. Our mother, grandmother and friend left us too soon before we could fully appreciate all that she had done for us through her selfless sacrifice for the family she left behind.

She was born on March 14, 1924 in San Diego, CA, to Hiroichi and Kazue Horiuchi Kano. Her mother passed away when she was 8 years old, and she and her two brothers and sister reluctantly returned to Wakayama, Japan to live through the desperate WWII years with relatives.

After the war, she came back to the country of her birth where she met and married Kayzo Kano in 1950 in Ogden. They resided and farmed in Syracuse, Utah for most of their lives. She worked for a short time at Sperry-Univac, but farming was her and Kayzo''s real vocation. In her later years, she was co-owner of the Oriental Market in Roy where her penchant for hard work and honesty serve her in good stead.

Fusa excelled in crocheting, knitting, and Bunka (needlepoint) pictures. Many of her relatives and friends have much-prized examples of her artistic expertise in these skills. She particularly enjoyed the many short trips to Wendover with her family testing her luck on the slot machines.

Devoted to her family, Fusa is survived by her daughter, Marie (Art) Suekawa of Roy; son, Arthur (Jana) Kano of Layton; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother, Shoji "George" Nakamura of Gardena, CA; sister, Emi Iguchi of Wakayama, Japan; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kayzo; daughter, JoAnne Petersen; parents and brother, Kiyohiko.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 North Street. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
