Gaitha Woolsey Butterfield

March 21, 1912 ~ January 12, 2015

Gaitha left her tired body on January 12, 2015 and went to a joyous reunion with her Mother, Father, Husband, Son, and Heavenly Father.

She was born on March 21, 1912 in Escalante, Utah to Joseph Riley and Wilhelmina Woolsey.  She was the fourth of nine children.  The family moved from Escalante to Riverdale when Gaitha was ten years old.  After her Mother died in childbirth, Gaitha cared for the younger children while her Father and older siblings worked.

She married Henry “Hank” Butterfield on September 20, 1930.  They raised three sons and after Gaitha’s brother passed away they raised two of his sons.  Hank passed away on February 8, 1978.

Gaitha was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gaitha worked all her life.  She was a waitress at the Top of the Town Restaurant, Ross and Jacks, and Ramada Inn.  After 47 years of being a waitress, she retired to do daycare in her home for 12 years.  She gave that up when she moved in with her son Darrell and daughter-in-law Pat.  Still not ready to rest she worked for seven years at the Deseret Industries.  Then spent seven years with the Foster Grandparent Program as a teacher’s aide at Green Acres Elementary School.

At the present time she has 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Darrell, and one grandson.  Surviving are her sons, Jerry (Pat) Butterfield, and Mike (Robyn) Butterfield; daughter-in-law, Pat Butterfield and sister, Oma Anderson all in the Ogden area.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.   Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
