LAYTON a€" Our beloved father, Gale William Arndt, passed away November 12, 2012 at the age of 86.

He was born on November 7, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, to Emil R. and Bessie Thomas Arndt. He grew up in Roseville, Michigan the third of seven children.

Bill served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Orvetta and the USS Hector in the Marshall Islands, the Philippines and Shanghai, China. In October of 1947 he joined the US Air Force and served in the Korean War. He retired from military service in 1965.

He gave the most productive years of his life to the service of our country to ensure the preservation of peace throughout the world and to protect our freedom.

Bill''s greatest love was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He married Dorothy J. Beck on February 11, 1953. Their vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on July 12, 1963. He held many callings in the LDS Church, including Bishopric Counselor, high council and Ogden LDS Temple ordinance worker.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy, their children and their spouses, Sharon Hinson, Layton; Steve and Cindy Arndt, Riverdale; Dick and Pat Arndt, Bess and Calvin Kendell, Clearfield; and Lori and William Snegirev, Palmer, Alaska. He has 23 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, Thomas Arndt, Sharon Augustine, and Richard Arndt all of Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Ward Building, 590 W. Antelope Dr., Layton. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden.
