Garel R. Larson “Pops” 92, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025. He was born October 8, 1932, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Ross and Oral Larson. The family moved to Ogden when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Weber High School and was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and spent 3 years in Alaska.
He returned to Utah and married Marylin Casteel on December 21, 1954, in Elko, Nevada. They sealed their marriage in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1956; together they raised three children.
Garel became a lineman and troubleshooter for Utah Power and Light Company in 1954, and he retired in 1987.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, hunting (beer drinking), snow and waterskiing, golfing, and gardening. He loved to travel and was quite the handyman, he even lassoed a llama that got loose and entered his backyard. Aside from driving his wife mad, he enjoyed being a grandfather and great-grandfather most of all. He would laugh at the exploits, celebrate milestones, and pass on important life lessons, especially patience…or more accurately the lack of it!
Garel is survived by his daughters, Bambi Ormond and MaryAnn Koch both of Ogden and his daughter-in-law, Becky Larson of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his by seven grandchildren, Dawn, Liz (Peter), Noel (Brad), Clint (Ilham), Carly (Dave), Riley, and Kyle, and six great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane (Dave) Murphy, of Lake Havasu, Arizona, and his sister-in-law, Margene Johnson of Roy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marylin; his son, Marvin; his parents; and his sister, Carol Walter.
