Garry James Bennett peacefully passed away at his home in Layton, Utah September 8, 2023.
Garry was born in Roy, Utah on August 10, 1940 to Howard Rueben Bennett and Mable Leona Williams Bennett. He came into the family as the youngest, joining his sister Dionne. Garry graduated from Davis High School where he met his sweetheart, Karlene Mockli. Dad and Mom married on November 8, 1958. They had several homes in Layton with the final home being the one he built by himself and was so proud of it. It was a home that we grew up in as a family with so many fond memories.
Garry worked for Kaysville City for the first years of his marriage. His love of working with his hands motivated him to pursue his lifelong career as a carpenter. He worked for Zoland Whitesides Construction and J Ron Stacey Construction until he opened his own Company as the General Contractor of Garry Bennett Construction. His specialty was Finish Carpentry such as cabinetry, hutches, shadow boxes etc. He simply loved working with his hands. His favorite hobby was to work in his garden providing all kinds of vegetables for family and friends. He always made sure his yard was just perfect and full of flowers. Dad always had a comment to make you smile when you came to visit.
Garry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving in many callings for the church. Dad and Mom served LDS missions as Conference Center Guides and Ushers for the Conference Center as well.
Garry is survived by; his sister Dionne (Rudd) Bennett Scoffield; and his children; Christie (Colin) Blackner, Shawn Bennett, Donnell (Mike) Bunting, Bryce (Emilio Trevino) Bennett and. His nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
