Garry LeFevre Mortensen

Garry LeFevre Mortensen, 73, of Layton, Utah, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025. He was born on November 12, 1951, in Panguitch, Utah, to Hugh A. Mortensen and Hartence LeFevre.

Garry lived a rich and diverse life, touching many hearts through his various professional endeavors and personal pursuits. As a professional chef and caterer, he shared his passion for cooking with countless individuals. His dedication to service extended to his roles as a school bus driver and phlebotomist at Cottonwood Hospital and other medical facilities. In his later years, Garry demonstrated that learning knows no age limit by earning his Master's Degree in Special Education, along with degrees in Psychology and Health Care Administration.

A man of many talents, Garry found joy in whittling, wood carving, drawing, and various arts and crafts, he also loved gardening which was his passion. His commitment to youth development was evident through his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow. As a young man, he served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sacramento, California.

Garry was preceded in death by his mother, Hartence LeFevre (Jack Dalton); father, Hugh A. Mortensen; and brothers, Craig and Steven Mortensen. He is survived by his siblings: Mary Wynn, Paul Mortensen, Margaret Goff, Phillip Mortensen, and Troy Mortensen; his children: Michelle Park (Scott), Glenn Mortensen (Angela), Matthew Mortensen, Marie Mortensen, Annie Rowberry (Darin), and Heidi Mortensen. His legacy lives on through his 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, with 2 more great-grandchildren on the way. He shared 25 years of marriage with Shirley Denos and later spent 25 years with his companion Brooke Whipple.

Visitation services will be held at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah, on Friday, February 28th, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. with funeral services following at 6:00 p.m. at the same location.

Garry will be remembered for his creative spirit, dedication to learning, service to others, and the love he shared with his large and cherished family.
