Garry Fredrick Sahleen
9/7/1938 ~ 2/21/2014
Garry Fredrick Sahleen passed away on February 21, 2014 at his home in Pleasant View, Utah. He was 75 years old. He was born on September 7, 1938 in Murray, Utah. His parents were Roland Eric Sahleen and Golda Marie Sahleen.
He attended Olympus High School and served a mission in the Western States Region. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors in Education and Masters in Social Work. He worked at the State Mental Hospital and MOWEDA Detention Center during the early part of his career before joining LDS Social Services, where he worked for 35 years. He was a gifted and talented social worker and family therapist, with a remarkable ability to help others. Helping others was not just his profession. It was an essential part of who he was. He enjoyed gardening (but not sprinklers), fishing and playing games with his extended family, especially if he knew he could win. His family was his greatest joy. He loved Handel's Water Music but he also enjoyed action movies with car chases. He was active in his church and found great comfort in his personal relationship with Christ. He believed every baby is a blessing and every person, no matter their station, is important. For him, the worth of a soul is great.
Garry is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Wilde Sahleen, his brothers Al and Dennis Sahleen, his sister Marla Sahleen and his four children Dale Christopher Sahleen (Michele Swift), Cynthia Marie Sahleen-Veasey (Andrew Veasey), Joel David Sahleen (Robyn Walker) and Jared Garry Sahleen (Tonya McKay). He has ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. He had a great childhood in Holladay, Utah where he lived until the age of 24. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife’s parents Dale Raymond Wilde and Mary Smith Wilde.
A celebration of his life will be held this coming Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N.
