Garry Alfred Schlattmann

Garry Alfred Schlattmann passed away at Ogden Regional Hospital on May 1, 2019 of pancreatic cancer. He was born on May 29, 1948 at the old Ogden Dee Hospital. Garry was the son of Bob Bill and Josephine Adams Schlattmann. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Garry attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1967.
He served in the United States Army with the 25th Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam. Of his service the Secretary of the Army stated, “His outstanding performance during his time was a significant contribution in support of the United States effort in Vietnam. He performed in a highly professional and efficient manner, accomplishing his assigned mission with exceptional results. He set an example that inspired his associates to strive for maximum achievement.”
Garry had a strong work ethic and worked several jobs throughout his life. He retired as a head custodian for Ogden City Schools. During his time as a resident of the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veteran’s Home, Garry made numerous good friends. After recovering and going home, he returned often serving as a volunteer. There he enjoyed dealing cards and accompanying veterans on outings.
Garry loved his true calling as a mountain man and loved going to numerous rendezvous. His next loves were hunting and fishing of every kind. In his later years of life, he enjoyed going with friends to fly remote control airplanes. He also loved sitting on his front porch visiting with friends, especially his good K-9 friend Kitty.
He was a great brother to Larry W. Schlattmann of Pocatello, ID, Judy S. Glommen (Martin) of West Haven, UT, and Jolyn S. Emerson (Dan) of Roy, UT. He also loved his 10 nieces and nephews, along with his great nieces and nephews. They also loved him. Many knew Garry as a gruff and tuff guy on the outside, but a soft teddy bear on the inside. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
