Garry D. Skeen
PLAIN CITY – Garry D. Skeen, 70, died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.
He was born November 7, 1938 in Ogden, a son of James Blaine and Irene Maw Skeen.
On January 30, 1959, Garry married Sherille East in Ogden.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Garry retired from Anderson Lumber where he worked in lumber management.
In his younger years, he played baseball. Garry played for the Plain City Slow Pitch Softball Team, which won the World Church Championship three years in a row. President David O. McKay was present at their third championship. He also served on the Junior Posse for several years. In his later years, Garry enjoyed golfing, horse racing with his brother and especially the many hours he watched his grandchildren grow up and play sports. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years.
Garry had great courage and a strong will to live. He suffered a stroke eight years ago but still loved riding his lawn mower, whether for joyriding or for mowing the lawn.
Surviving are his wife, Sherille, of Plain City; one son and two daughters, Dale B. (Stacy) Skeen, Plain City; Sherri (Lynn) Milligan, St. George; Coleen (Bruce) Thorpe, North Ogden; 11 grandchildren and four and half great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother and two sisters, Ronald (Shirley) Skeen, Beth Bitton and Beverly Pledger.
Preceding Garry in death were his parents, one brother, Lymon Skeen, and two sisters, Arlene Alvord and Barbara Skeen.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Plain City Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
