Garth C Alvey
November 1927 ~ February 2021
Our beloved father and grandfather, Garth C. Alvey, passed away at his son’s home early Friday morning February 26, 2021 at the age of 93. He was surrounded by his loved ones and we were grateful to be able to spend cherished time with him. Garth was born in Escalante, Utah, November 1927. His early years were spent in Kaysville, Utah. After school he enlisted in the United States Navy and was proud to serve at the North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA.
He met his wife Charlotte and while on leave in 1948 they went to Elko, Nevada and were married. They made their home in Washington Terrace, UT. Their home was a favorite with their grandchildren for lunches or just a place to go when school was too much. They were married for 64 years before she passed away in 2012. Garth and Charlotte enjoyed traveling and camping across the United States and Canada. Hawaii, Lake Louise in Banff, and the National Parks were favorite places. Disneyland was also one of their favorite places to go, and many great memories were made there over the years. His most recent trip when he was 90 years old with his extended family, he often talked about this trip and enjoyed showing everyone his scrapbook.
Garth worked at Hill Air Force Base as a project planner, and as an instructor teaching PCAM equipment to new hires. He retired from there in March of 1982. After retirement he was a crossing guard for Roy Elementary School and a bus driver for the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind. He loved to teach his family the different signs he had learned while serving the children.
Garth and Charlotte were sealed in the Ogden Temple in May of 1988 on Charlotte’s birthday. He served as a Stake Clerk for over twenty years.
Garth tenderly cared for Charlotte until she passed away from Alzheimer’s. They had a rotation of restaurants where they enjoyed eating and many servers became treasured friends. A few of their favorites were Olive Garden, Rainbow Gardens, Moore’s, and almost all family events ended at Ligoris.
Garth was very proud of his family and we were honored to have him as our leader. He will be deeply missed and leave a hole in our hearts.
