Garth Middleton Blanch, DDS

Garth Middleton Blanch, DDS, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully April 3, 2017 after a long battle with cancer and other health conditions. We honor him as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, church leader, dentist, and retired US Army Colonel.
He was born to Joseph Glen and Laura Evelyn Middleton Blanch on March 27, 1934 in Ogden, Utah and was their only child. He met his sweetheart Jaciel Elaine Gray at Judy’s where she worked as a waitress. They were married for time and all eternity on September 6, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He always treated her with respect and affectionately called her “Queenie”. Together they were blessed with an eternal family, their greatest joy in life.
Garth attended Weber State College and was a member of the Phoenix Club Fraternity. He attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He began his career in Ogden, Utah, where he practiced as a dentist for more than 30 years. Garth was an US Army reservist, retiring at the rank of Colonel. He served as commander of Ft. Douglas 143rd Dental Unit. He also served as Commander of the 328th General Hospital Unit at the US Base in Kitzingen, Germany during Desert Storm.
Garth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings. His church service included callings of Branch President, Stake Young Men’s President, High Priest Group Assistant, Elder’s Quorum President, Ogden Utah Temple Worker, ward clerk and Sunday School President. He was also a diligent home teacher.
Garth was a man who was loving, giving, and loyal. A valued member of the community, Garth was known for his friendly and loving personality. He enjoyed giving service to others and sharing his knowledge. He served as president of the Weber County Dental Society. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and Kiwanis Club. He served locally in the South Ogden Area as the PTA President of his children’s school in the 1970s. He also volunteered at the Hill Air Force, Union Pacific, and Browning Armory museums.
Garth enjoyed gun collecting, airplanes, model cars, photography, foreign travel vacations, boating, and being with his family. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and was loved and admired by his many friends, family, and patients. He will be greatly missed, but will be joyfully reunited with his parents and other loved ones.
Surviving and honoring his memory are his loving wife, Jaciel; and four children, Scott Glen Blanch, Sr. and his wife Jill, Careen B. Jensen and her husband Mark, Celia Ann O’Dell and her husband Steven, and Camette L. Behrmann and her husband Kenneth. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery where Military honors will be accorded by Brigham City VFW Post 1695.
