Gary M. Buttars
RIVERDALE a" Our beloved father, son, grandpa, and brother returned home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 15, 2010 of a sudden heart attack.
Gary was born November 14, 1950 in Salt Lake City, a son of Paul A. Buttars and Jeanette Anderson Buttars. He grew up in South Ogden and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1969 where he excelled in baseball and basketball.
He married Gale Criswell in 1971. They were later divorced.
Gary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Elders Quorum Presidency and as a Ward and Stake Missionary. All four of his sons served missions and all five of his children were married in the temple.
He was employed as a foreman at Cherrington''s Sheet Metal and spent over 35 years working in the HVAC industry.
Gary served in the National Guard in 1969.
He enjoyed traveling with his family, going four-wheeling, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Gary had years of experience coaching his boys in various sports.
He was a very loving and compassionate person who loved life and helping others.
Gary is survived by four sons and one daughter, Brett (April) Buttars, Chad (Jennie) Buttars, Eric (Kristi) Buttars, David (Sarah) Buttars, and Elizabeth (Aaron) Stuart, and 13 grandchildren.
Also surviving are his father; three brothers, Steven (Jackie) Buttars, Mike (Alayne) Buttars, and Marty Buttars; sisters, Kate Buttars and Rhonda Buttars. Gary was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Riverdale 1st Ward Chapel, 1056 W. 4400 S., with Bishop James Aurich officiating.
Family will meet friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday at the Ward Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment, Clarkston Cemetery.
