Gary Gene Campbell

September 8, 1943 ~ October 26, 2018

Gary Gene Campbell, age 75, passed away peacefully on 10.26.18 in his home in Hooper surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with kidney cancer.

Gary was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on September 8th, 1943 to Gene Clint and Lily June Campbell. He was raised on his family’s cattle ranch in Manila, UT; he was the oldest of four children. As a young boy he rode horses, participated in rodeos, and showed steers in 4-H.

Gary married Judy McKalvy in 1963. They had one son Kevin, and later divorced. After working on Flaming Gorge Dam as an iron worker, he moved to Ogden in 1963 where he met his wife of 49 years, Carol Ann Thomas. Gary and Carol were married on November 15th, 1969, in Evanston, WY. They had two sons, Darc and Kurt.

Gary continued to work construction and retired as a member of the Iron Workers Association after 25 years, he had his own iron business called Campbell Company that he opened in 1983. He then worked at Hill Field Air for 17 years; he retired in 2005.

Gary got his private pilot’s license in 1998 and owned a Cesna 172 and a Cardinal 169; he was an avid pilot and took day trips and made many friends at the Ogden Airport over the years. Gary was proud of achieving his pilot’s license in his 50’s; most of his pride came from his children and grandchildren.

Gary is preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Allen (Mary Jean) Campbell; sister, Gaylene; and father-in-law, Jack Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons: Kevin (Cathy) Campbell, Ogden, UT; Darcy Todd (Amy) Campbell, West Haven, UT; and Kurt Heath (Julie) Campbell, Hooper, UT. He also leaves five grandchildren who adored him: Shawntel (Mason) Russell, Maddison, Cassidy, Carsyn and Cashton Campbell. Gary is also survived by his sister, Bonnie (Ed) Jordan, Pascoe, WA and mother-in-law, Carolyn Thomas.
