Gary Alan Chapman went to the "Great Garage Sale in the Sky" on Thursday, December 30, 2010.
He was born January 22, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Raymond and Lola Smedley Chapman. He is a graduate of Clearfield High School and Utah State University.
Gary was a member of the LDS Church (Pineview 1st Ward!) He became an Eagle Scout at the age of 16 and served an LDS mission in New Zealand.
Gary married Cheryl Knight in 1967 and together they had three children, Buffy, Cindy and Gary Jr. "Termite".
He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 36 years of civil service.
Gary had many hobbies including traveling to Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Canada and Southern Utah. He was the "MASTER" of garage and estate sales, finding many treasures, always fulfilling requests from friends and family. Many homes contain unique items restored by his hands. Gary''s greatest love is his grandchildren and since his retirement he has fulfilled the roll of "second father", never missing any event they were involved in and ensuring they had everything they needed. Gary was an avid gardener and had the best tomatoes in the State; he claims they were watered with a vodka drip system. Gary was the author of the book; "Used Man", which was written at Snow Basin in 1988.
Gary is survived by seven brothers: Richard, Robert, Steve (Nadine), Jeff, Tracy (Kristin), Bryce (Barbra), Kelly (Lori) and his favorite sister, Patti (Arnold) Poll; three children, Buffy, Cindy (Joe) Heibel, Gary Jr. (Lori) Chapman; seven grandchildren, Austin (Mandy), Lyndsie, Hayden, Logan, Baylie, Kadee, Abby; two great-grandchildren, Ryker and Brackyn Adams. Gary is also survived by numerous friends whose lives he touched more than words can ever describe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 6th at 2 p.m. at the West Point Cemetery, 40 North 4000 West.
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, January 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, January 6th from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
In lieu of flowers Gary would like everyone to take a trip to Wendover in his honor, or feed the ducks at your local pond.
