Gary Thorald Cox

August 8, 1937 – April 15, 2017

Our loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the age of 79.

Gary was born on August 8, 1937 to Thorald Harrison and Eva Rosella Cox and raised in Hooper, Utah. He graduated from Weber High School in 1955. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 43 years as a civilian, retiring in 2000.

Gary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the plan of salvation. He served faithfully in many callings.

On January 30, 1974, he married Ann, the love of his life, in Honolulu, HI, on a square dancing trip. Gary spent the next 43 years spoiling her rotten. They were sealed for time and all eternity on May 9, 1985, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Gary enjoyed spending time with family, camping, fishing, traveling the world and collecting hats. He had a passion for classic cars and could find a car show or museum in almost every town he visited. Together he and Ann spent many years square and round dancing. He also spent endless hours by his wife’s side decorating their home to capture the spirit of Christmas for many to enjoy.

Gary is survived by his wife, Ann Cox; and four children: Chad Cox, Jim (Annette) Verhaal, Wendy (Richard) Basford and Mitzi (Kenneth) Taylor; 7 grandchildren: Eva-Marie (Jake) Stanger, Tyson, Tawny and Jaxon Verhaal, and Ashlee, Paxton and Stockton Taylor; and two great-grandchildren; Rosella and Adelaide Stanger. He is also survived by two brother-in-laws, Ronald Bell and Steven (Lieu) Bell and countless close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Vicky Cox Avis.

My Dad, My Hero

Maybe not as fast as a speeding bullet…but would leap a building for me in a SINGLE bound.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Clinton 2nd Ward Chapel, 2141 West 1800 North. The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
