Gary Lawrence Empey

Gary Lawrence Empey passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at his home, from Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
He was born September 9, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Lawrence Gerald and Myrtle Edna Saunders Empey. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1957 and Weber State University in 1969, majoring in Mathematics.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ranger for 4 ½ years.
On August 5, 1966, Gary married Virginia Diane King in the Logan LDS Temple.
He served in many church callings and he was involved in Scouting for 50 years, earning Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver awards.
Gary volunteered for NAMI and LDS family history.
He had an extremely inquisitive mind, and was constantly learning and studying. His many hobbies included genealogy, woodworking, model airplanes and cars, coin collecting, art and photography.
His pride and joy was his children and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife and children, Jason Neil (Jackie) Empey, Brett Noel Empey, grandchildren, Justin Neil Empey, Jason Clay Empey, sisters, Sharon Anderson, Ogden; Georgia (Ed) Haynes, Colorado; Marilyn Weller, California; Marianne (Chris) Lathrop, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Friday, October 7th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
